Hungry Directors

A person can grow to his or her fullest capacity only in mutually caring relationships with others.” - Fred Rogers

Just last month I presented a webinar for directors called, Putting out Fires. I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised to have 701 people, mostly directors signed up to listen to the webinar.

This made me think that directors are hungry for information, ideas, suggestions and answers to their questions. I spent roughly 3 hours after the webinar answering questions that I didn’t get to during the couple hours I was talking.

So, what I talked about was broken into three types of fires.

  • Explain three of the fires in Child Care centers and offer some suggestions and pose some questions for reflection.

Type A : Day-to-day common
               place problems

Type B: Staff issues

Type C: Family Issues

Interestingly I discovered that the majority of the participants mostly wanted help and ideas for working with staff and staffing issues.

Think about the following:

Staff issues.  What happens when a staff person calls off? What are some ways to care for your staff, promote their professional development and challenge them? (educate, nurture and support)

When dealing with staff issues I find the following the most challenging?

A. Delegating

B. Communication

C. Retention

D. Scheduling

E. Professional Development

Review what I have written and I was thinking that we could continue the conversation here on the blog. Think about the questions above or the most challenging aspect of dealing with staff and post a question or a comment to get the conversation started.  Or if you have another concern you would like address you can post that as well. I look forward to our conversation on “Putting out Fires” or even better preventing them by being proactive.
